Superfoodฎ provides the nutritious supplements yeasts need for growth and survival during the anaerobic stress of fermentation, in doses that are most advantageous. Superfood contains primary-grown, FULLY autolyzed yeast extract and yeast hulls. Superfood, containing a variety of nitrogen sources, is MUCH better for yeasts than just DAP and better than other blends. Superfood includes 32.5% DAP, but most nutrient blends have much more DAP (45% up to almost 100%).

Use: For most fermentations.

Contains: Yeast Hulls, DAP, Yeast Extract, Complex Minerals, Vitamins

Dose:

  • For high risk fermentations:
    • 500 ppm (4#/1000)

Composition and appearance:

•              Ingredients: Fully autolysed yeast products, DAP (32.5%), minerals, vitamins

•              Light tan, hygroscopic powder with a somewhat yeasty aroma

Purpose:

•              Complex nutrient for yeast fermentation

•              Helps prevent stuck or sluggish fermentations

•              Promotes yeast growth, viability, and long-term survival

•              Increases alcohol tolerance of yeast

•              Helps prevent H2S and volatile acidity formation during fermentation

•              Promotes more complete utilization of nutrients

•              Improves aromas and flavors by balancing amino acid usage

•              Complex mineral blend helps yeast growth and fermentation more than simpler mineral blends

Typical Dosage Rate:

•              300-600 ppm (2.5-5 lb/1000 gallons), providing 12 ppm available nitrogen in 120 ppm (1 lb/1000G)

•              Higher doses for mead and some fruit wines

•              Legal limit 8 lb/1000G

•              IMPORTANT: Nitrogen-deficient musts require EXTRA DAP plus Superfood

Preparation and use:

•              Stir into water or juice before adding, or stir directly into juice.

Stage 1: At yeast inoculation if juice YAN is 150 ppm or less

Stage 2: During first half of fermentation

Stage 3: At or just after mid-fermentation

•              For uninoculated fermentations, begin adding nutrients when Saccharomyces yeasts are growing (examine under microscope or wait for a clean, yeasty-smelling fermentation to begin).

General Points:

•              Contains DAP and other ingredients not permitted for organic wine

 

 

SUPERFOODฎ

Shelf Life and Stability:

•              Store tightly closed at cool room temperature (20 C/68 F or below) in a dry place.

•              Hygroscopic, will form lumps if exposed to air.

•              Discard if lumps form that cannot be broken easily into powder, or if an unpleasant aroma develops

•              Can be used for 2-3 years if it is still in powder form and retains a clean, yeasty aroma.

•              Shelf life may be reduced if stored at a warmer temperature and/or in humid conditions, or if stored in contact with

air.

•              Skin and eye irritant; wear eye protection, dust mask, and coat
